Thanks for your comment. The pet food recalls (which are actually ongoing) changed the way a lot of people fed their pets! I personally left the 'kibble crew' because of my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's health problems.

Don't worry! I know plenty of people who prepare their pet's food - you aren't crazy!

After the pet food scare of a few years ago (which included a brand I was feeding my dog) I decided to start researching a better way to feed my dog. When I read Dr. Pitcarin's book my eyes were truly opened. I decided to start cooking for my dogs. Now their diet includes chicken, turkey, ground beef mixed with rice or pasta and vegetables, along with vitamins and other needed additives like calcium, etc. Most vets aren't on board with this type of feeding but my vet said the proof was in my dogs who are both thriving. An added bonus is when it's feeding time they are so excited to see what's for dinner! It does take a few hours of prep time but I have finally found a system that works for us. I cook big batches, freeze them in weekly servings and just warm it up at feeding time. I feel my pets are worth the extra time because I don't ever want that feeling again that I could be poisoning them with commercial food. I do get funny looks when I mention that I cook for my dogs. I'm sure they think I'm the "crazy dog lady" but I can take it! Thanks for writing an interesting post.
